The beaches
Relax on the Île de Groix
Just a few minutes by bike from the hotel, the beaches of the Île de Groix are perfect for relaxing, daydreaming and idling away the hours. The loveliest of them, the Plage des Grands Sables, is hidden behind the tall grass along the coastal path. From the summit of a hill, you’ll get a glimpse of its convex shape, the only one of its kind in Europe. The island’s largest beach, it has fine white sand, and its water is transparent (the beach is also monitored in July and August).
To the south of the Grands Sables is the Plage des Sables Rouges, which gets its name from the red garnet mineral found on the beach, especially when things have been “shaken up”.
Further afield, the rocks of the Pointe des Chats contain blue glaucophane, which you can only find here and in Greenland.
Other beaches await you, such as the one in Locmaria, completely south-facing and protected by a bay, with kayak rental available and services nearby. There’s also the beach at Port Mélite, sheltered from the wind and easy to access, with rental of Optimist dinghies available in summer, along with sailing classes. Finally, there’s the Plage de la Cote d’Héno, located next to Port Tudy.
